This workshop is designed to build a strong understanding of the watercolor portrait from the ground up. Rather than simply copying a reference, you will learn to see the face as a three-dimensional form and understand how volume, perspective, light, shadow, tonal values, and color work together.
The course begins with essential principles of volume, perspective, contrast, gradients, and color connections. From there, Eudes will guide you deeper into facial structure, skin tones, color variation, and the difference between soft, hard, and projected shadows.
Each day Eudes will demonstrate his complete portrait process — from drawing to the first washes and final layers — while explaining the decisions behind each stage. Students will then paint from the same reference under his personal guidance, followed by a group critique of selected works.
The goal is not simply to complete a portrait, but to understand why it works — giving you the knowledge and confidence to approach your own watercolor portraits with greater freedom, clarity, and expression.
A week that will change the way you see watercolor.
